In Flanders Fields Poem

By:  Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Registration is open for Event Camp Europe, a day-long conference for event professionals exploring innovative formats and technology for meetings and events to be held in London Sept. 9.

Event Camp Europe will also be a hybrid event and will offer opportunities for remote participation via PODs (groups that agree to attend the event together at a remote location) and for individuals viewing from their home or office.

Cost for the event is £100 for onsite attendance, £250 per POD for participation including a full instruction kit and case study on How to Set Up a Remote POD for Your Event. Individuals are invited to participate remotely at no charge, but registration is still required.

San Antonio River Walk

San Antonio is the latest city to be added to the WTTC.com network of city destinations. A 2007 Pinnacle Award winner, San Antonio is the second-largest city in the state of Texas and the seventh largest city in the United States.

Famous for its River Walk and the Alamo, and home to SeaWorld San Antonio, Fiesta Texas and the San Antonio Zoo, the city was visited by some 50,000 delegates last year alone. San Antonio is also home to the McNay Art Museum, the first museum of modern art in Texas.

San Antonio is an ideal place to hold an event — the downtown area is safe and has a lot of hotels within walking distance to the convention center. In fact the San Antonio area is home to more than 35,000 hotel rooms — about 12,500 located downtown. Twenty San Antonio hotels have received AAA’s coveted Four Diamond rating including the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk, Emily Morgan Hotel, Grand Hyatt San Antonio, Hilton Palacia del Rio and Hotel Contessa. Only New York, San Francisco and Chicago have more Four Diamond hotels.

The city also is also rich with special venues to host receptions, sales meetings and gatherings — from Western saloons and ranches, to historic cottages and manors (even an 1860’s-style antebellum mansion).

San Antonio is a member of the Convene Green Alliance, an industry initiative that strives to lessen the environmental impact of organizations and the events they sponsor by adhering to environmental best practices.
